Why Christians Have Always Sung Together

Long before microphones, choirs, and worship bands, Christians gathered together to lift their voices in song.

They sang in homes.

They sang in fields.

They sang in simple meetinghouses.

They sang because singing is one of the most powerful ways God's people worship together.

When a congregation sings, something remarkable happens. Individual voices become one. Young and old, trained musicians and those who simply love the Lord all participate equally. Singing invites every worshipper to take part rather than simply observe.

Hymns also teach.

Many believers can still recite verses they learned decades ago because they first sang them as children. Sacred music has a unique way of planting truth deep within our hearts, often remaining with us long after sermons have been forgotten.

Throughout history, hymns have strengthened faith during times of joy, comforted believers through sorrow, and reminded God's people of His promises.

That is one of the reasons the Covenant Christian Hymns Project exists.

We hope to preserve the rich heritage of sacred music while encouraging new hymns that continue pointing hearts toward Jesus Christ.

May we never lose the joy of singing together.

"Speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord." — Ephesians 5:19

Until next time... keep singing.
